Rats in the loft of this Newport pproperty
Had a call from Mrs W who complained of scratching noises coming from the loft of her Newport house. When I arrived I too could hear the familiar noises, I went into the loft and discovered rodent damage to a board next to a water tank, (see photo). During the survey I found a loose brick at the rear of the house and a water pipe that had been left uncapped.
An adult rat can squeeze through a hole the size of a fifty pence piece, then when inside the cavity they can move freely around the building including the loft.
I have deployed rodenticide in the loft and will proof the holes and fit a Rat flap on the house drain outlet.
On examining the garden I saw that the next door neighbour was feeding the Birds. Spilt Bird seed will attract Rats and eventually they will try to get into any nearby buildings.
I will be monitoring Mrs W’s house in the future to make sure she has no more Rat problems
