Rat Control Pontypridd.

Had a call from the landlord of a house in Pontypridd asking for help because his tenant  had complained of Rats above the bathroom ceiling.

The survey.

Rat Control Pontypridd. After talking to the tenant it was established that the Rat control problems had caused a power failure in the property because they had chewed through the cables above the kitchen.A look in the ceiling space revealed a strong smell of rat urine ,droppings and the chewing of the insulation. The rats were able to travel everywhere under the first floor from the suspected entry point.A friend of the tenant had caught two adult rats in traps beneath the front bedroom floor, again strong smells and droppings revealed their presence at the front of the house. An inspection of the rear garden and the outside of the house did not reveal any entry points.

The action .

The tenant did not want rodenticide deployed because of the danger of one dying under the floor and not being recoverable.A large percentage of rat problems in dwellings are caused by rats gaining access via defective drains, they burrow from the drains into the cavities in houses. I use an infra red camera to film rat activity  particularly in domestic drain systems. The camera was deployed in this drain showing three waste outlets into the main sewer outlet. The video footage showed rats in the drain and entering the house outlet pipe.

With a little more confirmation action will be taken to stop the rats entering the property from the drains.

The drain defect allowing the rats to gain entry to the property has now been repaired. The section was owned by the local water company. All repairs must be rat proof as they will return to the entry point and try to gain entry again.
